Welcome to our clinic!
Did you know that Chiropractic is the largest natural health profession in the world? Chiropractic promotes the idea that the body has an inborn ability to heal itself provided there is no nervous system interference. This is because your nervous system controls and regulates every cell, tissue and organ in your body and when there is interference within this system, the ability for your brain and body to communicate at an optimal level is disrupted.
When the brain and body cannot communicate back and forth through the nervous system, a myriad of symptoms and conditions can arise. Are you suffering from a certain symptom or condition with little to no success in finding relief? Check out how upper cervical chiropractic may be able to help you or your loved ones suffering with a certain condition by clicking here. Upper cervical is a unique subspecialty within the field of chiropractic. The upper cervical region is also known as the craniocervical junction and it is located at the top of your neck. Why is this area so vital? Well this is where your brainstem is located and your brainstem controls your autonomic nervous system such as your breathing, heart rate, digestion, etc. When you have a misalignment in this area of your spine it can apply pressure, tension or irritation to the brainstem and affect its function. This is known as a subluxation. A subluxation in your upper neck is unique in that it requires a special approach to correcting it. Luckily, there are Doctors of Chiropractic who have extra knowledge in this field as they have continued their education and training post Doctorate degree to be able to precisely locate, analyze and correct these types of subluxations.
How can I get a subluxation in this area of my spine? Great question! This area is actually the most susceptible area for this to happen. The unique shape and function of the top two bones in your neck allow for you to be able to have a great range of motion in your neck (turning, bending, looking up & down, etc). While this is important, it is only achievable because the top bone in your spine known as the Atlas/C1, is held in place only by soft tissue (ligaments, tendons and muscles) which leads to it being an area more susceptible to injury and instability. What about the rest of my spine? Another great question! Upper cervical chiropractors don’t neglect the rest of your spine, in fact, they are able to effect and restore balance to the whole spine and all body systems with a proper correction to the top bone that your head sits on. Again, this bone is known as the Atlas in reference to the famous Greek Titan god named Atlas who was responsible for carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. In a similar manner, the weight of our world (our brain/head) rests upon our Atlas.
Each subluxation and correction is distinct to every individual and the healing response is also unique to each individual. Follow-up visits help our doctors monitor your correction, assess your nervous system and maintain your progress throughout the healing phase. Our ultimate goal as upper cervical chiropractors is for you to NOT need an upper cervical adjustment each visit. This is because we want to get you to the point where you are “holding” your correction because when you are “holding” you are “healing”!
